Reconstruction of the New Stage of the National Theatre will begin by summer

10/02/2026

The new stage of the National Theatre will be reconstructed by an association of companies Metrostav DIZ, OHLA ŽS and Trigema. It won the tender with a price of 1.8 billion crowns excluding VAT. The construction is expected to take two years. The National Theatre expects that the work will begin by the end of the current theatre season, i.e. in the first half of the year.

The reconstruction will not change the external appearance of the building and will preserve the architecturally valuable interior elements. During the restoration, the green serpentine cladding, the spiral staircase and the generous light object by Pavel Hlava and Jaroslav Štursa are to be sensitively renovated. The builders are to proceed in the same way with the building envelope, which consists of 4,000 glass screens. The glass block facade was designed by Karel Prager together with the leading Czech glassmaker and artist Stanislav Libenský.
