Martin Glaser will be the General Director of the National Theatre, he will lead the first stage from August 2028

The Minister of Culture of the Czech Republic, Martin Baxa, has announced the name of the winner of the selection procedure to succeed Jan Burian as the General Director of the National Theatre.

The Czech First Stage will be led by director and current director of the Brno National Theatre Martin Glaser from August 2028.

One of the features of a developed cultural society is predictability, which is essential for the responsible and successful management of large and important cultural institutions, which the National Theatre undoubtedly is. It is common in the world that selection procedures for similarly prestigious positions are held well in advance in order to ensure the participation of the best and most qualified candidates. And this was achieved in this case. In the person of Martin Glaser, the National Theatre will have a top-notch general director, "said Minister of Culture Martin Baxa.

The selection process took place since September last year. The chairman of the selection committee, consisting of renowned experts and representatives of the Ministry of Culture, was the dramaturg, translator and teacher Prof. Mgr. Jan Hančil.
